Very unusual bits of Long Beach history here. Included are TWO Jefferson Junior High School books... one from February 1933, and one from June 1933. The big quake of '33 happened on March 10th, after the publication of the first book and before the publication of the second.
The contrast is unmistakable... the earlier book has a better cover, a stapled binding, typeset pages and includes photos. The latter book has a simpler design, an uncluttered cover, no binding with mimeographed pages just inserted loosely, no photos, and a few less pages than the 33 in the earlier book.
I was touched by the writings and words in the latter book, where the earthquake had obviously affected these lives so greatly. They describe the sudden loss of their school and also the temporary classrooms they are using, but their spirit seems strong.
Very nice little set of two simple books, which I don't think you could find anywhere else. Condition is what you would expect for old paper... aged, but readable.
