Up for sale is an authentic, highly scarce original 1937 document directly detailing the operation, development, and specifications of two of the most celebrated pilot tool watches in horological history: the Longines-Lindbergh Hour Angle Watch and the Longines Weems Second-Setting Watch.
Side 1: Titled Longines-Lindbergh Hour Angle Watch, detailing the principles of celestial navigation, novel features, bezel use, equation of time calculations ("With the Sun" and "With the Stars"), and illustrated with diagrams of both the large Standard Model and the New Wrist Size Model. Side 2: Headed Weems System of Navigation, Annapolis, Maryland (August, 1937), covering the history and operation of the Second-Setting watches. It lists prominent aviators and navigators using the system, including Col. Charles A. Lindbergh, Mrs. Charles A. Lindbergh, Lincoln Ellsworth, Harold Gatty, Amy Johnson, and Fred Noonan (notably printed just one month after Noonan vanished alongside Amelia Earhart).
