A remarkable period scrapbook documenting the Great Ohio River Flood of 1937 through contemporary newspaper photographs, articles, maps and full pages saved as the disaster unfolded. Coverage spans communities across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois, with scenes of flooded towns, rescues, refugees, levees and recovery efforts.
The approximately 11" x 14" scrapbook is about half filled, with blank pages remaining in the back. Several newspaper pages and clippings are loose and remain with the scrapbook. A small amount of later material is also included, including WWII-era news and gasoline-rationing information.
Condition is rough and extremely fragile. Pages and clippings show significant toning, brittleness, tears, chipping and edge loss; some material is loose/detached. No restoration has been attempted. Please review photos carefully and handle with care.
