It was used by the United States military during World War II and the Korean War.The DUKW was used to transport troops and goods over both land and water. It excelled at approaching and crossing beaches in amphibious warfare attacks.Some that survived the war and some that were built based upon it made it into the tourism industry. Often referred to as Ducks or Duck Boats. Some having more success than others.
