Personally signed "Lewis" in large blue ink at the lower right.
The reverse bears a period Fox-Tone / Fox Co., San Antonio, Texas photographic processing stamp dated 1943, firmly placing the photograph during World War II.
Lewis Starno is identified by name on another photograph from the same small personal group. That photograph is handwritten on the reverse "Lewis Starno – Friend."
