The photo shows two LCM(3) "Mike boat" landing craft, hull numbers 12-5 and 12-27, sitting ashore on their wheeled beaching cradles at the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard in 1944, three years after the attack that brought the United States into the war.These 50 foot Higgins-designed boats were built to run a 30 ton Sherman tank, 60 troops, or 60,000 pounds of cargo straight onto a beach, and they were the workhorses behind every major Pacific island landing from Tarawa to Okinawa.
A faint period pencil notation, "4535-44," appears on the reverse, consistent with a Navy photo lab negative number from 1944.

Two corner creases are visible, most noticeably at the upper left corner. Light scattered surface toning and a small area of adhesive/foxing staining appear in the upper left sky area, not affecting the main subject. The image itself is sharp and well contrasted with strong blacks. The reverse is clean apart from the small pencil notation noted above. No tears, no writing on the front, no trimming.
