Offered is an original vintage January 1947 Esquire calendar page featuring a classic Varga Girl illustration by renowned pin-up artist Alberto Vargas.
The glamorous blonde is shown holding a cigarette, with bright red lips and nails and an elegant white ruffled garment accented by a small gold star. Vargas's signature appears within the artwork. Beneath the illustration is the January 1947 calendar along with the printed credit “Painting by Varga – Verse by Phil Stack.”
This is an especially attractive example of Vargas's celebrated Esquire-era work, with beautiful color and a striking portrait-style composition.
The reverse is also printed and features a period horoscope for Capricorn, headed “Under the sign of Capricorn,” adding another interesting element to this original calendar sheet.

About Alberto Vargas
Alberto Vargas (1896–1982) became one of the most recognizable American pin-up illustrators of the 20th century. His glamorous “Varga Girls” created for Esquire during the 1940s helped define the sophisticated pin-up style of the era and remain highly collectible examples of mid-century illustration art.
