Original vintage black-and-white photograph documenting Denver Cornett’s famous MG TC crash at the inaugural 1948 Watkins Glen road races in New York.
During the 1948 event, Cornett crashed his MG into the dry creek bed near the stone bridge on the original Watkins Glen road course. The location subsequently became known as “Cornett’s Stone Bridge.”
This photograph captures the aftermath of the accident, showing Cornett’s damaged MG being recovered, with substantial damage visible to the front wheel and suspension.
Remarkably, Cornett was able to repair the car with assistance and borrowed parts and returned to competition later that day, finishing 7th in the Grand Prix.
The reverse of the photograph bears a period handwritten identification reading “Cornetto MG,” referring to Denver Cornett and his car.
