Wonderfulcirca-1950s hand-carved West African elephant coffee table, constructed from beautiful, solid mahogany.
This unusual mid-century table featurestwo individually hand-carved solid-wood elephantssupporting the tabletop. Each elephant displays hand-carved ears, eyes, trunk, feet and tusk details. The elephants stand on a substantial lower wood plinth with distinctive shaped feet.
The tabletop features particularly attractive natural wood grain along with a sculpted/scalloped profile at the ends.
An exceptionally similar documented example is attributed toWest Africa and the 1950s, featuring the same distinctive two-elephant construction, long lower plinth, shaped feet and sculpted tabletop design.

This is a substantial piece of vintage handcrafted furniture rather than a modern mass-produced decorative table.
