Vintage 1961 Hawaiian Village Narcissus Festival Queen Coronation Banquet Menu Honolulu Hawaii Aloha Airlines
The Hawaiian Village grew from the 1928 Niumalu Hotel, which industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and developer Fritz Burns bought in 1954 and rebuilt from 1955 into a Waikiki resort known for a geodesic-dome showroom that opened in February 1957. On January 19, 1961 — the year of this banquet — Conrad Hilton acquired a majority of the property for $21.5 million and renamed it the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The coronation honored a Narcissus Festival queen, the Lunar New Year pageant the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii created in 1949.
