Original 1964 presidential appointment document issued by the President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson, to William H. Mansfield III of Connecticut, naming him a Consul in the Foreign Service of the United States. The large vellum-style certificate bears the printed facsimile signatures of President Lyndon B. Johnson (autopen) and Secretary of State Dean Rusk, along with the embossed Great Seal of the United States at lower left.
Dated March 10, 1964, and executed at Washington, D.C., this official document was produced by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, as noted at the lower margin.
William H. Mansfield III began his Foreign Service career in the 1950s and later held senior United Nations environmental posts, including Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP).
Measures approximately 14 x 18 inches. Excellent condition with only minor toning and handling wear at edges. A handsome and historical State Department document from the Johnson administration.
