1970s Vintage Usaburo Creative Kokeshi Doll "Shun Sai" (Spring Colors) Nobuyuki For Sale

Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic Japanese Creative (Sosaku) Kokeshi doll titled "Shun Sai" (春彩 / Spring Colors). This exquisite piece was handcrafted at the world-renowned Usaburo Kokeshi workshop in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. It comes complete with its original presentation box featuring the official workshop label and red artist seal stamp.

The doll is in excellent, pre-owned vintage condition. The natural wood grain is stunningly showcased through a rich, dark finish, beautifully contrasted by vibrant red-carved plum blossoms or cherry blossom petals. The wood retains its original lustrous polish with no cracks, major chips, or fading. Doll & Artist History

• The Master Workshop: Usaburo Kokeshi was founded in 1950 by Usaburo Okamoto (1917–2009), a pioneering force in the Sosaku (creative) Kokeshi movement. Unlike traditional regional kokeshi dolls which follow rigid structural designs, Usaburo spearheaded a style that allowed artists complete freedom of shape, design, and expression—treating each doll as a unique piece of modern folk art.

• The Artisan Designer: This specific, long-running design named "Shun Sai" was created by Nobuyuki Ishisone (born 1949), the second son of Usaburo Okamoto. Studying directly under his father from the age of 18, Ishisone became highly celebrated for using the natural, deep textures of native Japanese woods to evoke the sweet, rustic charm of a young girl. His works elegantly blend traditional Japanese warmth with a timeless modern aesthetic.
