Description:Up for sale/sale is a phenomenal, investment-grade example of an early-production Gerber Command I tactical boot knife. Complete "time capsule" packages in this pristine, unaltered condition are exceptionally rare on the secondary market.Based on the low, all-numeric serial number (005440) and the left-side crossing retention strap design on the sheath, this exact knife was manufactured between late 1980 and early 1981. It features the iconic "Gerber Portland Ore. USA" ricasso stamp.Condition Breakdown:
  • The Blade: Factory sharpened with the original satin finish fully intact. The edge is immaculate, showing absolutely zero signs of being put to a sharpening stone, altered, or used to cut. No pitting, scratches, or tipping.
  • The Handle: The highly fragile black "Armorhide" coating is 100% fully intact. There are no chips, flakes, or wear points exposing the underlying aluminum guard or pommel—a true rarity for Gerber knives of this era.
  • The Sheath: Original premium black leather boot sheath featuring the steel metal rear clip and brass hardware. The diagonal button strap pulls securely over the left side of the guard. The leather remains supple with tight stitching. Small rust spot on the sheath clip.
  • The Box & Paperwork: Includes the original vintage factory cardboard box and the original paperwork/care insert. The box has been carefully stored, retaining its structural integrity without the heavy collapsing or water damage typical of a 45-year-old package.

  1. Vintage Gerber Command I Knife (Serial #005440)
  2. Original Black Leather Metal-Clip Sheath
