At Camp and Girod Streets: A new look in the Central Business District - The section of New Orleans close to Lafayette Square for years has been an embarrassing eyesore. Scarred and tumble-down buildings crowd the area, which is popularly recognized as New Orleans' Skid Row. In recent years, however, and as a result of concern among private citizens and businessmen, the area has begun to change. Many dilapidated buildings have been tastefully restored, while plans are in the works, as previously reported in this column, to transform Lafayette Square into a permanent outdoor exhibition and performance center.
