First up, this is a bit of a \"FrankenPete\" pipe, which is all Peterson but a mix of compatible parts. The bowl is a 1981 Peterson 314 Premier system briar pipe and is the smallest/lightest of the full-bent billiards.This pipe is a highly collectible estate pipe that sits perfectly in the \"Republic Era\" of Kapp & Peterson\'s history. Unlike the workhorse System Standard lines, the Premier tier represents an upscale execution of Charles Peterson’s legendary 1890 moisture-trapping patent.For a 1981 model, this translates to a beautifully smooth, tight grain structure finished in a traditional walnut stain, showing minimal fills compared to the standard lines.
The stem is not the original, as it is a similar size and full bend to what you see here, but this is off a deluxe pipe with the metal condenser that you would find on the next grade up of Peterson pipes. For a collector, it is a miss, but for a smoker, it is a plus. You get the premium briar with the cooler smoke of the deluxe stem, and it fits better in the mouth than the original stem I have on my other 314 pipes.
That is why I am selling this pipe, as I have too many and need to reduce down to a reasonable number for my collection. It is time for this beauty to move on to the next pipe smoker to enjoy.
