This is an original press photo. Trainer John Barth, of Pardeeville, put one of his American water spaniels through its paces at a nearby lake as part of a retrieving exercise. The American water spaniel was bred for huntersin the early 1900's as a hearty dog that could retrieve game in marshes and uplands during Wisconsin's cold weather.
