This 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) challenge coin is a highly specific battalion-level command-recognition piece combining Commander / CSM “For Excellence” identity, individual numbering, and unmistakable 5th Group symbolism. The pairing of Lieutenant Colonel and Command Sergeant Major rank insignia with “FIRST BATTALION” and “FOR EXCELLENCE” establishes the command-team focus immediately, giving this coin substantially more specificity than a general 5th SFG(A) unit design.

The obverse carries “1BN, 5TH SFG (A)” above stylized Arabic calligraphy translating to “The Scorpion,” with “OPERATE ON THE REG” along the lower border.
