This rare and fine Ram effigy believed to be Hopewell Culture.
I believe these are a variant of the Hopewell effigy boatstones.
The base is deeply cupped or incurvate 3/4". Single hole in the front for attachment.
The holes are always drilled at an angle.
I have only seen a handful of these in 45 years of collecting.
The other four were made from a transparent calcite.
It has fantastic workmanship and artistic merit. Most importantly,
it is made out of a very special light green serpentine material that has orange highlights.
2 3/4" tall at head, 3 1/4" diameter base.
Museum quality piece.
