One of Alessi's series that embodies "industrial craftsmanship" is the "Twergi" collection, which was born in 1989.
It was an ambitious challenge to revive the traditional craftsmanship that the woodturners of the Strona Valley, located near Alessi's headquarters, had passed down for centuries, into modern designs.
Unbound by the logic of machines, the craftsman's spirit, which responds to the free sensibilities of designers, and the masters like Ettore Sottsass and Andrea Branzi, who were captivated by the simplicity of the primitive tool known as the "lathe," have given birth to numerous beautiful wooden products.
The unique name "Twergi" comes from the name of a nearby valley and means "forest fairy."
