Here is a genuine piece of a vertebra process fossilbone from an Allosaurus fragilis. Thisspecimen is from the Morrison Formation, in western Colorado. A process is a solid piece that extends out from the center of a vertebra.

Allosaurus was the apex predator ofits time, living in the Jurassic, about 145-155 million years ago. This waslong before the first T Rex (66-70 million years ago). Most Allosaurus skeletons have been found inWestern North America in the Morrison Formation, particularly in Wyoming, Utah,New Mexico, South Dakota, and Colorado.

Allosaurus means “Different Lizard”because (at the time it was named) it was unique in having concave indentationsof the sides of its vertebrae. It was acarnosaurian theropod (meat eater). Itwas named in 1877 by Othniel Charles Marsh. Allosaurus is the Jurassic StateFossil of Utah.

This specimen measures 4.03 inches onour calipers (102 mm)., and weighs 6.0 oz. It is a sturdy piece.

This was coated by a paleo bondbefore it was pulled out of the ground, so that it did not fall apart. Withdinosaurs, this is not considered damage. In fact, the vast majority ofdinosaur bones at museums were at one point also glued together in like manner.

Allosaurus fragilis could grow to 30feet long (smaller than T Rex but still scary) and was a bipedal predator. Its’arms were longer than T Rex, each with 3 killer claws (T Rex had 2 claws oneach short arm).
