IMPRESSIVE LARGE 13-STAR SEWN AMERICAN FLAG — APPROX. 65\" × 94–95\"
Offered here is a striking large-format 13-star American flag featuring the classic circular / wreath-style star arrangement associated with early American and “Betsy Ross” flag designs.
This is not a printed flag. It is constructed from individual pieces of fabric, with separately sewn red and white stripes and 13 individually applied white fabric stars on the blue canton. The stars show slight variations in shape and construction, giving the flag tremendous visual character.
The flag measures approximately 65 inches × 94–95 inches, or roughly 5.4 × 7.9 feet.
Construction details include:
• 13 individually sewn/appliquéd fabric stars arranged in a circular wreath
• Individually pieced and machine-sewn red and white stripes
• Large blue fabric canton
• Heavy tan/cream canvas-style hoist reinforcement
• Metal hoist fittings / eyelets
• Straight machine stitching visible throughout
• Large approximately 5 × 8-foot format
• Wonderful overall age, patina and display presence
The flag shows age-related discoloration, toning, staining/spotting, wrinkles, loose/frayed threads, fabric wear and other signs of previous use and storage. Please carefully examine all photographs for the exact condition.
The 13-star American flag design was produced during numerous periods of American history for patriotic, commemorative and other uses. From my research and comparing other flags this is approx 1800’s flag.The exact date, manufacturer and historical period of this particular example have not been independently authenticated, and it is therefore being offered based solely upon its observable construction and physical characteristics rather than with a guaranteed date of manufacture.
No attempt has been made to wash, restore or alter the flag.
