Antique 1865 CIVIL WAR Necklace Locket Gold Filled POINTER DOG w/ PROVENANCE For Sale

Estate purchase. Did not find any finesse markings, but confident the chain and lock it are gold filled. Hand-painted pointer dog embellishment on front of locket. When we opened lock it for inspection, a small handwritten note was found inside behind the glass on one side, as shown in pictures. Dated 1865. The other side contains what we believe is a rough cut tiger's eye stone. The locket measures about 1 inch tall not including the hook by 7/8 in wide. These measurements are in the closed position. The chain measures about 20 in long, not including the portion that dangles down to the locket. It is possible this chain may have been for a rosary at some point, but this is how we purchased from the estate. Lock it opens and closes as it should and chain closure works as it should. A beautiful collector's piece for a jewelry fanatic or civil war fan!
