Wonderful antique German Victorian-era “Bilder-Album” or picture scrapbook filled with original 19th-century chromolithograph die-cut scraps.
A handwritten presentation inscription inside appears dated November 27, 1878, providing an excellent period reference for the album.
The pages contain an engaging assortment of colorful Victorian scraps, also known as Glanzbilder, including circus performers, clowns, birds, flowers, animals, children, fashionable figures, decorative portraits, and miniature illustrated story scenes. Loose Swedish flag and decorative paper pieces are also included as shown.

Condition: This is an approximately 148-year-old paper album in fragile, well-used antique condition. The cover and spine show substantial wear, rubbing, fading, edge loss, and separation. Interior pages have age toning, foxing, staining, tears, creases, looseness, and worn edges. Some chromolithograph scraps are torn, lifting, incomplete, missing, or show old adhesive residue. Several loose paper decorations are included.
The album is sold as found and should be handled carefully. Please review every photograph closely for content and condition. A beautiful surviving piece of Victorian paper history for an ephemera, chromolithography, circus, collage, or folk-art collection.
