Measures approximately 59\" × 75\".
Features 20 hand-worked basket motifs in an unusual arrangement. The center baskets stand upright, while the baskets along the outer sides are turned sideways, creating a wonderfully graphic design.
The baskets are made from an early red patterned cotton on a white cotton ground. The red has naturally faded in areas over time to softer red and pink tones.
Baskets are intricately pieced from small red and white triangles, with curved handles that appear appliquéd.
The hand quilting is exceptional. The white ground is densely quilted with feathered and plume-like designs, crosshatching, diagonal grids, curved motifs and closely spaced quilting.
The amount of handwork creates beautiful texture and dimension throughout and is even better in person.
A narrow faded red linear border frames the quilt near the edge, finished with a narrow red binding.
These characteristics are consistent with an antique textile approximately 125–145 years old and are part of the quilt’s history and character.
