"BLUE FLUTED" SOUP TUREEN

Available for purchase is an antique porcelain soup tureen made by Royal Copenhagen in Denmark.The pattern is referred to as "Blue Fluted", a design featuring delicately hand-painted blue flowers and leaves against a white background. Royal Copenhagen's Blue Fluted pattern was introduced in 1775, the same year Royal Copenhagen was founded in Denmark. It is still made today and has been in continuous production by Royal Copenhagen for 250 years.There are several variants of the Blue Fluted pattern and this tureen seems to be a mixture of two of them. The body of the tureen appears to be the "Blue Fluted Half Lace" design (with lace border) and the lid looks like the "Blue Fluted Plain" pattern (no lace border). I'm not sure if the tureen was originally sold that way or if it represents a marriage from two different tureens. The lid doesn't fit very snug, so maybe the latter. Regardless, they still match quite well.The tureen measures about 12 1/2" long (to edges of handles), 8 1/2" wide, and approximately 8 1/2" tall (to top of snail shell finial). The underside of the base has the pre-1890 three waves mark, the number "26", and "N:1". There are also some faint impressed intitals "HH". I've read that Blue Fluted Half Lace design was introduced in 1888, so the base was likely made between 1888 and 1890. I purchased this tureen at a recent estate sale.Condition of this Royal Copenhagen tureen is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or crazing. The unglazed base rim has some minor age discoloration. As I mentioned previously, the lid doesn't fit real snug, possibly a marriage of two different Blue Fluted pattern variants. Overall, this tureen looks great and displays well. It would make a fine addition to any Royal Copenhagen collection. Pleasetake a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself.
