Beautiful antique Friendship / Signature Quilt dating to approximately 1890s–1910s, featuring the classic Chimney Sweep (Album Block) pattern and an especially attractive Turkey red calico.
The quilt is composed of repeating red-and-white geometric blocks, with individual blocks signed or inscribed by the people who contributed to the quilt. Several of the signatures are embroidered, adding to the personal and historical character of this piece.
ANTIQUE TURKEY RED CALICO
The rich red printed cotton used throughout the quilt is a particularly desirable feature. Turkey red was prized for its remarkable colorfastness and became an important textile in American quilting during the 19th century. CHIMNEY SWEEP / ALBUM BLOCK
