Description
Offered is anantique circa-1920s automobile radiator cap featuring a Native American / Indian Head mascotmounted on a large dog-bone style cap.
The cap has two long opposing handles with rounded ball ends and a large threaded mounting section underneath. The central mascot depicts a detailed Native American head wearing a period-style headdress.
The design is reminiscent of1920s Pontiac Indian Head radiator mascots, which are well documented from this period. However, I havenot positively identified this particular dog-bone cap and mascot combination as a factory Pontiac part, so it is being sold as an unidentified period automobile radiator-cap mascot rather than with a guaranteed vehicle application.
The entire assembly currently has agold/brass-colored painted or coated finish. I do not know when this finish was applied or what the original finish underneath may be. I have not attempted to remove or alter it.
Condition:Good antique display condition with age-related wear. There are scratches, small chips/areas of finish loss, surface imperfections, casting irregularities and general wear consistent with an old automobile accessory. The head retains good facial and headdress detail. Please examine all photographs closely for exact condition.
The threaded underside is present. Theblack display base shown in the photographs is not believed to be original to the radiator capand is used for display.
Exact age, manufacturer, originality of the gold finish and vehicle fitment havenot been independently verified. Measurements and thread dimensions should be compared with the buyer's vehicle before purchase.
An unusual and attractive piece of early automotive history that would display well in a collection ofantique hood ornaments, radiator mascots, Pontiac memorabilia or early automobilia.
All photographs are of the actual item being offered and form an important part of the description.
