Charming Antique Wenau “Delila” Illustrated Postcard – No. 2124 – Postmarked 1925
Beautiful early 20th-century illustrated postcard featuring two children bundled in winter clothing, carrying colourful parcels and evergreen greenery through a snowy European scene.
The reverse is marked Wenau – “Delila” and No. 2124.
This particular design appears to be uncommon and difficult to find. I have been unable to locate another example of Wenau–Delila No. 2124 with this exact illustration.
The postcard was actually mailed in the Netherlands and bears a wonderfully clear Rotterdam postmark dated December 11, 1925, making it especially appropriate as a Christmas/winter collectible. The original Nederland 7½-cent postage stamp remains attached.
The card was addressed to Miss Emmy van Savoyen at the Municipal Hospital, Pavilion/Ward 2, Coolsingel, and is signed “Tante Marie” (Aunt Marie) on the correspondence side — a lovely little piece of Dutch social and postal history from more than a century ago.
The colours remain remarkably attractive, particularly the children’s red and purple winter clothing, parcels and greenery against the snowy background.
