Up for sale is an antique 19th century Andean brass mate cup — the traditional yerba-mate drinking cup of Spanish colonial South America. Found in Peru; this style comes from the Andean highlands (Peru/Bolivia) of the 1800s.
Hand-engraved with an oval \'fish-scale\' band around the bowl, foliate engraving on the lower bowl, a hexagonal tapered pedestal base, and an ornate scrolled and engraved side handle.
Measures about 5 inches tall and 3 inches across the rim (see tape-measure photos).
Brass (not silver). No maker\'s marks — unmarked pieces are normal for this type. Sold as a 19th century Andean/Spanish colonial style mate cup; a domestic drinking cup, not a religious chalice.
Condition: estate condition with patina and light wear consistent with age (see photos). Interior shows staining. No cracks or repairs noted. Please do not clean the patina.
