Item Description:
Authentic Antique 46-Star American Flag (1908–1912) — Pieced & Sewn Stripes — 44" x 25"
A genuine, period-authentic 46-star American flag dating to the rare Oklahoma Statehood window!
Oklahoma entered the Union as the 46th state on November 16, 1907, and the 46-star flag officially debuted on July 4, 1908. It flew for just four short years until Arizona and New Mexico were admitted in 1912. Because of this brief 4-year existence under Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft, original 46-star flags are exceptionally rare compared to the 45-star flags before them and the ubiquitous 48-star flags that followed.
Construction & Details:
• Stripes: Individually cut and pieced red and white cotton stripes joined with authentic period double-needle chain stitching
• Canton: Rich navy blue field featuring 46 warm, aged-amber stars arranged in the classic 8-7-8-8-7-8 pattern
• Hoist: Sturdy natural canvas heading complete with an authentic pressed-brass grommet
• Display Size: Measures approximately 44" wide x 25" high—the coveted "sofa / mantle" scale that hangs easily in home offices, rustic cabins, or formal collections without overpowering the room
Condition Notes:
This flag has genuine character that only comes with 115+ years of history. It displays natural, honest patina and softening of the cotton weave, with warm toning to the white stripes and stars. There are two minor period tears/frays and historic hand-stitch repairs along the fly hem from actual period display, giving it authentic folk-art appeal. The fabric remains supple, clean, and structurally sound for framing or wall mounting. Please inspect all close-up photographs for exact condition and stitch work.
