Antique Abraham Lincoln Cast Metal Portrait Plaque Insert c1909-1930 6.75” Description

Unusual early 20th-century Abraham Lincoln cast-metal portrait plaque, featuring a raised left-facing profile of President Lincoln against a finely textured, leather-like background.

The rectangular plaque measures approximately 6¾” high × 4?” wide. The perimeter has a distinct recessed or stepped edge, suggesting that the plaque was originally designed to fit within a separate wooden or metal frame or presentation mount. No frame is included.

The plaque appears to be made from a cast zinc/white-metal or similar period base-metal alloy with a bronze-tone finish. It is not being represented as solid bronze. The reverse exhibits gray and whitish oxidation characteristic of aged cast base metal.

The Lincoln portrait has particularly attractive dimensional modeling, with detailed hair, beard and facial features.

We have found no visible manufacturer’s name or artist’s signature. Based upon its construction and style, we believe it is an early 20th-century piece, possibly circa 1909–1930, although the exact manufacturer and date have not been identified.

An interesting piece of Lincolniana worthy of further research and an attractive display piece for a collection of Abraham Lincoln, presidential, political or American historical memorabilia.

Condition

Good antique condition with age-related wear. Original bronze-tone surface shows patina, oxidation, discoloration, small areas of finish loss and surface wear. The reverse has substantial oxidation consistent with the age and base-metal construction.The recessed perimeter suggests the plaque may originally have been mounted in a frame, which is no longer present.Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description. No cleaning or polishing has been performed.
