This antique chalice in gilded or vermil silver with its paten is a beautifully handmade piece that originates from France in the late 19th century, circa 1890, made by Parisian silversmith Brunet Paul. Sterling chalice and paten, both with the L*G mark. The chalice also bears theMinerva hallmark, which is an official French guarantee mark introduced on May 10, 1838, to certify the purity of solid silver items.The paten has a secondary mark that I am unable to interpret. The chalice, a symbol of Christianity and its sacraments, exudes a sense of historical significance and craftsmanship. Made with great attention to detail and exquisite design, this is a collectible item that would be a cherished piece for any Christian collector or someone interested in religious artifacts.Silver and silver-gilt chalice and paten. These were a gift to me 50 years ago by an elderly Catholic priest who was dying, as he wanted them cherished and protected after he was gone.
