Original multi-generation family photographic archive associated with the Converse and Stanford families, dating primarily from the late 19th through early 20th century.
The collection includes cabinet cards, mounted photographs, baby and childhood portraits, couples, individual portraits, and multi-generation family photographs. Photographer imprints represented include Bower of Adrian, Missouri; Thorson & Hartman of Morris, Illinois, and other period studios.
Importantly, portions of this family archive have been genealogically identified. The collection includes material associated with G.E. Stanford and C.A. (Converse) Stanford, whose marriage was documented in McLennan County, Texas on May 15, 1902 (Vol. N, p. 156). Family provenance connects the photographs to the Converse line and later descendants.
The photographs descended with Converse-family material associated with Leta Colleen (Converse) Hargrave, mother of Lawrence, Kansas violin maker Amos Blynn Hargrave.
Not every individual pictured has been positively identified, so unidentified subjects are not being represented as specific family members without documentation. However, the photographs have remained together as a family group and are being offered intact as a historical/genealogical archive rather than separated individually.
