For sale is a beautiful, highly collectible piece of early 20th-century Americana: an original Dan Patch Cut Plug tobacco tin. Produced by the Scotten, Dillon Company of Detroit, Michigan, this highly prized crossover tin features graphics celebrating the legendary, record-breaking pacing horse Dan Patch.
Design & Graphics: The top lid and main front panel display a striking yellow background with the famous illustration of Dan Patch pulling a sulky harness with his driver, framed by a bold red sunburst circle. The side panels read \"Dan Patch Cut Plug - Chew or Smoke\" and feature the mandatory Factory No. 1, 1st District of Michigan tax notifications.

Condition: This tin is in great antique condition and makes a wonderful display piece. The primary lithographed lid and front panels remain bright and glossy with excellent color retention, showing typical light surface scuffs, tiny paint flecks, and edge wear consistent with its 100+ years of age. The interior is structurally stable, and the back hinges operate smoothly. The underside base has aged down to a dark, authentic charcoal-silver oxidized patina as shown in the photos, but the metal remains solid.A premier find for any antique advertising, horse racing memorabilia, or early tobacco tin collection.
