Antique Edward F. Caldwell & Co. Harp-Form Table Lamp – Early 20th Century
Offered is a beautiful and unusual early American table lamp attributed to Edward F. Caldwell & Co. of New York, one of America's premier makers of fine architectural lighting and decorative metalwork during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The underside of the base bears the distinctive “C” within a diamond/lozenge maker's mark associated with E.F. Caldwell & Co. The attribution is further supported by documented Caldwell lamps featuring the same mark, as well as surviving examples with an exceptionally similar and distinctive harp-form construction.
The lamp features an elegant open bell/harp-shaped metal framework with decorative foliate details, a stepped circular base, suspended center socket, ornamental center casting, and acorn-form finial. The metal retains an attractive aged bronze/brass patina.
Based on the construction, styling, and documented Caldwell examples, this appears to date from the early 20th century, likely circa 1905–1925. I have not located the exact Caldwell factory design or account number, so the date is offered as an approximate period rather than a definitive production year.
Antique condition with age-appropriate patina, oxidation, surface wear, scratches, and marks. Please note that the decorative harp/frame is bent/out of alignment, which is most apparent when viewed from the side. I have made no attempt to straighten or reshape it in order to avoid damaging the original metalwork. I do not see an obvious break in the frame, but it is being sold exactly as shown, and any adjustment/restoration is left to the buyer.
The electrical cord/wiring appears to be a later replacement. The lamp also appears to be missing its original shade and/or associated shade-fitting hardware. Because this is an antique electrical fixture, the wiring and socket should be inspected before use. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
