This unusual antique metal ex-voto depicts a Fatschenkind, or tightly swaddled infant, a traditional devotional image associated with prayers and offerings concerning children, childbirth and protection.
The figure is formed from thin pressed/embossed metal with wonderful detail throughout, including a dimensional face, tiny exposed feet and an elaborate crosshatched swaddling pattern bordered by twisted rope-like decoration. A large integral loop at the top allowed the votive to be suspended or displayed.
Measures approximately 5 3/4 inches long.
The metal is unmarked and has been tested and is not silver. Exact metal composition and country of origin are unknown.
Antique condition with considerable age-related patina, oxidation, surface wear, discoloration and irregularities as shown. It has not been cleaned or polished, retaining its aged surface. Please examine all photographs closely for condition and detail.
