Antique German/Bohemian Glass Beer Stein Stone Ruby Red Flashed and Cut circa 1860s
Description: This very interesting stein was made in the 1860s. It is made of blown crystal glass with an applied handle. It is "flashed" or brushed with oxides and re-fired in a beautiful deep ruby-red color. It was then stone-cut to make circle-shaped facets, creating a fantastic optical effect.
This technique was very common during the late 1860s - early 1870s. The steins of this kind came mostly from Bohemia - now the Czech Republic. The lid is pewter with the same matching ruby flashed glass inlay. The thumblift is made in the feather shape - such thumblifts were used in the 1850s - 1860s.
The stein is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs.
It is 6.5" tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity.
