Antique German porcelain scuttle-style shaving mug from the early 1900s, marked "Manufactured in Germany." It has a swirled, shell-like body with a molded drape pattern throughout.
The upper soap cup is pink shading to cream, with a scalloped rim and gilt accents on every swirl. Three drain holes in the base of the soap cup empty into the water reservoir below. The lower body is glossy white with gold highlights and a scalloped front opening for the brush. The looped handle has a molded ribbon-tie detail at the top, and a gilt band circles the foot.
This scuttle would suit a barber shop or shaving collection, a vintage vanity, or a display of Victorian and Edwardian porcelain.
Measures approximately 3 1/2 inches tall.
The underside has a stamped "Manufactured in Germany" mark within an octagonal border, plus an additional small painted mark.
Condition:Used, in good antique condition. No chips or cracks were observed. The gilding shows noticeable wear consistent with age, with thinning and loss along the rims, handle, and raised swirls. Some gilt areas have darkened to a gray-black tone. There are a few small dark kiln specks in the pink glaze and a small dark fleck inside the soap cup, and the interior of the soap cup has minor glaze bumps from manufacture.
