Antique Grand Tour photograph album containing a fascinating collection of 42 late 19th-century art and architectural images, including 5 loose photographs/prints. The collection appears to date primarily to the 1890s, with several photographs marked 1897.
Likely assembled as a European Grand Tour or art-study album, the collection features photographs and reproductions of important paintings, frescoes, portraits, churches, architectural details and museum collections, with a strong emphasis on Florence and Pisa, Italy.
Several images are identified with prominent period publishers, including V.A. Bruckmann, München (Munich) and Ed. Jacquier, Florence. Subjects include works by or associated with Albrecht Dürer, Giotto, Fra Angelico, Ghirlandaio, Velázquez, Benozzo Gozzoli, Cornelis de Vos, and other European Old Masters. Images vary in size and include both sepia-toned and black-and-white examples.
42 images total — 37 mounted in the album and 5 loose.
Condition: This is an antique collection showing significant age and wear. The album is broken and does not close properly. The binding has separated, with loose/detached pages and considerable wear to the album leaves, including tears, chipping, missing portions along the edges, creases and discoloration. The photographs themselves are in varying condition with age-related toning, fading, spotting, surface wear, creases and other imperfections. Some photographs remain quite clear and well preserved despite their age. Please review all listing photos carefully for the exact condition of the album, individual photographs and pages.
A wonderful collection for anyone interested in 19th-century photography, Grand Tour memorabilia, European art, Italian Renaissance art, Florence, Pisa, Old Masters, or antique travel ephemera.
Sold together as found; all 42 images are included.
