For sale is a vintage pair of classical library bookends featuring the bust of the ancient Greek epic poet, Homer. Styled with a handsome, dark-patinated bronze finish, these statues feature highly detailed work showcasing the poet's beard and classical skullcap atop inscribed pedestal. They are constructed using the classic 1920s electroformed method, featuring a thin, genuine bronze/copper metal skin grown over a solid molded plaster core.
**CRITICAL CONDITION NOTE (PLEASE READ & REVIEW PHOTOS):**
This set is being sold AS-IS for parts, repair, or careful static display due to significant structural damage on one of the bookends:
- One bookend is in good vintage condition with minor surface wear and aging to the finish.
- The second bookend has severe cracking, buckling, and metal separation around the neck and shoulder area. The thin metal walls have caved inward slightly near the joint line.
- The second bookend has severe cracking and separation around the neck and shoulder area, which exposes the original white plaster core inside.
Please inspect all close-up photographs closely to evaluate the scope of the neck damage before offerding or purchasing. They still present beautifully from the front if handled very gently, or they can serve as an excellent restoration project for someone experienced with stabilizing vintage hollow spelter.
