Antique I.W. Harper Pre-Prohibition Gold Gilt Whiskey Decanter (c. 1890-1910) For Sale

This exceptional antique I.W. Harper “Pure Old Harper” back-bar whiskey decanter is a striking survivor from America’s Pre-Prohibition era, circa 1890–1910. Distributed by Bernheim Brothers of Louisville, Kentucky, the decanter features beautifully clear molded glass in an elegant teardrop silhouette with a distinctive vertically ribbed neck. Its most impressive detail is the ornate 22-karat gold gilt decoration, featuring the “Pure Old Harper” name surrounding an elaborate central monogram. The piece retains its original matching faceted glass stopper with ground-glass fitting, completing its classic turn-of-the-century appearance. Decanters of this type were created for prominent display on saloon back bars, where branded vessels helped advertise premium whiskey to customers before National Prohibition transformed the American spirits industry in 1920.
