and also bear the name Military Promotion Association.An anchor mark is stamped on the underside of the shell-shaped pieces, providing an important connection to the Imperial Japanese Navy.These are not actual ammunition. They are miniature commemorative objects approximately 7 cm tall and about 208 g each, created in the visual language of the Japanese military of the period.Emperor Taisho was the son of Emperor Meiji and the father of Emperor Hirohito, later known as Emperor Showa. He ascended the throne in 1912 and reigned until 1926.Because of continuing health problems, his active role became increasingly limited, and Crown Prince Hirohito eventually served as Regent. Although the Taisho reign was relatively short compared with the Meiji and Showa eras, it was an important transitional period in modern Japanese history. Japan participated in World War I, expanded its international position, and experienced political and social developments commonly associated with the Taisho Democracy period.This makes the date engraved on these pieces particularly interesting: they were produced at the beginning of a short but important era between Meiji Japan and the later Showa military period.What makes this set especially attractive is its completeness. Two matching examples survive together, along with a wooden display case with a glass front.
