O.V.B. stood for “Our Very Best,” the premium house brand of Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. This No. 35 utilizes the distinctive Gage self-setting mechanism and is from the period when Stanley manufactured Gage-type planes for H.S.B. & Co.
The wooden body has beautiful warm color and aged character. It shows scratches, small marks and blemishes consistent with normal use and age.
The dark hardwood rear tote and front knob have a beautiful deep reddish-brown appearance. Both are sturdy and solid with no cracks noted.
The metal components show light oxidation, discoloration and surface patina consistent with age. The blade assembly and adjustment mechanism remain in place. The underside retains its metal sole plate.

This plane has been left in its original unrestored condition. No effort has been made to aggressively clean, polish or refinish it, preserving the attractive surface and patina for the next owner.
A beautiful piece of antique woodworking equipment and a particularly interesting plane for collectors of Stanley, Gage, O.V.B., Hibbard Spencer Bartlett, transitional planes and early woodworking tools.
