Material & Silver Purity:
This piece has been tested with a handheld XRF spectrometer analyzer, which indicated a high-purity silver content (~89.6% silver / 10.3% copper alloy). Because of this, it is being sold as a solid high-grade silver piece, not a common silver-plated item.
Hallmarks & Origin (Please Read):
There are three small stamps on the blade that are heavily worn from a century of polishing, making the internal letters and faces too faded to read definitively. However, based on the specific geometric shapes of the stamps—most notably the horizontal diamond-shaped maker\'s cartouche—this piece is strongly attributed to late 19th or early 20th-century French manufacture, where the diamond shape was legally reserved for solid precious metals.
Because the stamps are rubbed, we cannot definitively name the exact silversmith or the exact assay year, so please review the close-up photos to make your own final judgment!
Design & Condition:
- Handle: Beautifully ornate Neo-Rococo / Louis XV style featuring flowing scrolls and acanthus leaves. It includes a hand-engraved cursive monogram in the central cartouche.
- Mechanism: The blade is straight. Most importantly, the hinge remains tight and secure, and the knife retains a crisp, satisfying \"snap\" when closing.
