Offered is a large and impressive antique German relief beer stein manufactured by Rosskopf & Gerz of Höhr, Germany, catalog/form No. 476, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1901 - 1917.
This is the large 3-liter, full-color high relief version, measuring approximately 14½ inches tall, 5¾ inches in diameter at the base, and 4⅝ inches across the top.
The stein features a detailed raised-relief Tyrolean social/dancing scene derived from Franz von Defregger\'s painting Ankunft auf dem Tanzboden (“Arrival on the Dance Floor”). The German inscription reads:
“Bei Spiel u. Scherz bleibt froh das Herz!” (“With play and jest, the heart remains cheerful.”)
The underside is impressed “GERMANY” and “476.”
