Antique Arts and Crafts hammered copper candlestick by the Roycroft Shops of East Aurora, New York. Marked on the base with the Roycroft orb and cross.
FORMThe strap pattern. Two flat hand hammered straps rise from a raised pyramidal square base to a scalloped bobeche and a flared candle cup. The straps are secured to the base with copper rivets, peened over on the underside and clearly visible in the photographs. The piece is assembled from hand worked sheet copper. It is not cast, and there is no solder, no modern hardware, and no replaced parts.
MARKThe Roycroft orb and cross is struck into the sloped face of the base. It is photographed here in raking light so it can be read clearly.

CONDITIONOriginal, untouched patina throughout. Dark brown with red and green tones, with verdigris on the bobeche and candle cup. This piece has not been polished and it should not be. On Arts and Crafts copper the original patina is the value, and a polished example is worth a fraction of an untouched one.The underside of the base shows scuffing and surface scrapes from a century of sitting on shelves and tabletops, including one long thin scrape across a panel. These are surface marks, not cracks, and none of them are visible when the piece is upright.
Old candle wax residue remains inside the cup and on the bobeche. No dents, no splits, no cracks, no repairs.
CONSTRUCTION NOTEThe candle cup and bobeche assembly rotates slightly on the straps. This is normal on riveted Arts and Crafts copper of this age, since the piece is assembled rather than cast. It is stable, it sits level, and it does not wobble, tilt, or lift. Noted here so there are no surprises.PACKING AND QUESTIONSI pack carefully and ship quickly from Los Angeles. The copper is wrapped so nothing rubs the patina, then padded and braced so it cannot shift in transit.
