Charming three-piece European duck collection pairing an antique SMF Schramberg German children’s plate with a whimsical vintage pair of ceramic duck salt & pepper shakers marked England.
These pieces were made separately and are not an original factory set, but they coordinate remarkably well. The warm yellow and cream palette, hand-painted details and playful duck imagery give the grouping the look of a naturally assembled vintage children’s tableware collection.
The 7” plate was made by SMF Schramberg of Germany and features a colorful scene of a duck family with ducklings. Often described as Entchen or a German Kinderteller/Kindertell children’s plate, this example is particularly appealing for its depiction of two adult ducks together with their young.
The underside carries the SMF Schramberg shield mark. The SMF trademark was registered in 1918, placing the plate within the company’s 20th-century production period.
The accompanying English ceramic salt & pepper shakers are a wonderfully eccentric pair. One duck wears a plum-colored hat and has painted eyelashes, yellow wings and a small floral decoration. The companion duck has a more naturalistic form with brown painted feather details. One is stamped ENGLAND on the underside. Maker is unknown.
Together they make an especially fun display for a cottage kitchen, vintage nursery, plate shelf, Easter collection or collector of ducks and European ceramics.

Condition
Plate: Antique condition with overall glaze crazing. Two small marks are present along the upper edge, likely from a previous plate hanger. No staining. Please review photographs closely for condition.
Shakers: Vintage condition with age-related crazing, most noticeably on the hat-wearing duck. A more pronounced line is visible around the lower neck of this shaker and is being disclosed as a possible hairline rather than simply glaze crazing. Other minor variations and wear are consistent with age. Please examine the detailed photographs.
The open filling holes remain on the undersides. No stoppers are present.
