Original early 20th-century Seabury & Johnson Billiard Cloth Mender metal tube/container with its surviving printed paper advertising wrapper and pictorial metal cap.
This unusual package originally held green material intended for repairing billiard or pool-table cloth. The label identifies the product as “BILLIARD CLOTH MENDER” and states “GREEN,” “7 INCHES WIDE” and “1 YARD LONG.”
The wrapper identifies Seabury & Johnson, New York, U.S.A., and references Seabury Pharmacal Laboratories, East Orange, N.J., along with international locations including London, Hamburg, Sydney and Montreal. The cap features the firm\'s distinctive pictorial Good Samaritan imagery.
