Offered here is a scarce original Sequoia Punch soda bottle from the Quality Soda Works, 1677 Seventh Street, Oakland, California, dating to approximately 1930–1935, most likely around 1932.
The spectacular original lithographed label depicts enormous California redwoods overlooking a mountain lake, with bold red SEQUOIA PUNCH lettering and the slogan “A Satisfying Drink.” It was printed by the Louis Roesch Company, Lithographers, San Francisco, whose tiny printer’s credit remains visible along the lower-left edge.
The label identifies the contents as a 6½-fluid-ounce carbonated punch, made with certified colors and less than one-tenth of one percent benzoate of soda. It also preserves the bottler’s early telephone number, OAK 5876.
This was almost certainly a locally distributed Oakland beverage sold through neighborhood groceries, restaurants, lunch counters, and confectionery shops. Unlike the great national soda brands, small independent bottlers served limited territories, making their original advertising and packaging considerably harder to locate today.
The pale green-aqua bottle stands approximately 8 inches tall and has a crown finish, heavy machine-made construction, and an especially thick, uneven heel. That irregular glass distribution is original to its manufacture and gives it wonderful early bottling character.
Condition: Bright, clean, shiny glass with no chips, cracks, or significant haze observed. The original paper label remains remarkably complete, vivid, and highly presentable, with expected light age toning and minor wear. The bottle is empty and does not include a cap.
A terrific survivor for collectors of California soda bottles, Oakland advertising, paper-label beverages, redwood imagery, Western Americana, or early soft-drink packaging.
