~ History & Provenance:  These sheep shears trace back to William Wilkinson & Sons, a legendary cutlery and tool manufacturer operating out of the Spring Works factory in Grimesthorpe, Sheffield, England. The company claimed an original founding date of 1730, and by the mid-19th century, they had achieved massive global recognition! Their high-demand, patent hand-forged sheep shears were exported extensively across the globe to fuel wool trade booms, particularly in Australia during the late 1830s. The peak of their manufacturing prestige occurred when the firm won the exclusive, highly coveted prize medals for sheep and agricultural shears at both the Great Exhibition of 1851 and the International Exhibition of 1862. The company maintained production under this exact family name until 1898, when it entered a short-lived partnership with the Burgon family, making this specific tool a definitive, authentic specimen of Victorian-era industrial craftsmanship.
